when did that Catholic Church start taking in protestants as leaders of their church? that is a hard one to get around. makes me feel this is misinformation, or disinformation depending on motives.

but OP's article states
Does this not imply Ratzinger was a Lutheran? which he was not. He just held respect for Luther whilst a Catholic, which at that time, was unheard of. I dont think much of OP's article is factual.
Via = by way of. The Catholic church wanted to bring the Lutherans and the Catholics together, but there was a sticking point over dogma. Ratzinger was able to bridge the gap between the two and forge a bond between the two churches. This was a big deal, which led to him being promoted.
Geez, guys, don't make this so hard.
