Seems likely it's part of the color revolution narrative push. Biden wearing purple ties recently, also. If you do a search from 2000 to 2020, the articles that come up are about purple triangles being used to identify Jehovah's Witnesses, "Bibelforscher (or 'Bible Students')" says wikipedia. Nothing about honoring last generation or whatever the story is this time.
