Tomorrow is strike 3 for me. First was the 6th, then 20th, and now the 30th I know not to datefag but my mental health has taken a toll, feels like freedom was taken from the world. My wife is having our second child in two weeks time. My 5 year old is noticing me on here way too much. I need to get emotionally back on track. If nothing happenes tomorrow. Thanks for being the best group of people in this world

I fear for the sanity of many people, TBH. People don't just spend inordinate time on here/on the internet, but due to general mistrust of MSM overall, they've stopped watching ANY mainstream TV - comedy, sports, light entertainment, etc. Plus, movie theaters are closed, sporting events limited, etc. People are seriously over-indulging in 'information'. I think too much of a good thing is not a good thing any longer.
Try talking to people about something OTHER than politics - chat with the neighbor about the weather, etc. It's quite refreshing!
Oh I was right there. I have forced myself to take breaks. I am still on here way too much lol, but not like before. I decided I needed a good positive distraction, so I started watching Survivor Season 1 and I'm working my way through all 40 seasons lol
It honestly helps. It's a fun distraction and keeps me from going completely crazy haha
So funny, my wife said yesterday she misses watching that show
I'm so addicted to it hahaha. This is not my first run through. I'm up to Season 17 already lol
Jeez haha one addiction to the next. Sounds like me ??♂️
I used to reddit, but I deleted my account after the whole conservative banning went down. r/survivor is a lot of fun.
I'm really bummed they didn't do a new season somewhere other than Fiji. I'm getting sick of every season being in the same place. As I'm rewatching, I am loving all of the cultural experiences in the earlier seasons. China has such a cool vibe, and it's one of my favorite seasons. I think I heard they have a contract in Fiji and that's why they wouldn't do it somewhere else, but ugh it's so annoying. I would love a new season, and I would love something different. Survivor Alaska or Survivor Virgin Islands could have been cool. I don't know... just somewhere different.
Since I've begun following politics more closely, it's hard not to see the messaging in TV shows and movies.
Watched a crime show from 2010's or so (Bones), by about the fifth or sixth season it became "woke", the conservative Christian cop suddenly stopped defending his conservative positions, starts attacking fellow conservatives (who are now casted as being very bigoted, racist, and so forth), and there were multiple jabs at conservatives & Christian people.
Nowadays, run of the mill crime shows have it infused into the show from the get-go. Two examples: Ransom & The Rookie.
The opening scene of Ransom was a crazy Christian, white-male, bomber at a church. Out of curiosity, I looked into whether there was any basis to this type of bad guy. Doesn't seem to be, and if there were, I'd expect it would be the first thing I found when I looked. Instead, I found multiple attacks where Christians are targeted at churches in foreign countries, by bombers of another religion.
Half way into the first season of The Rookie, the first highly organized attack was from a "white supremacist" group. The second attack from an organized group was from a "nationalist" group, whose members were also all white.
Third example, sort of in between the Bones and Ransom/Rookie cases. Prodigal Son, was a typical crime show (like a mix of The Blacklist & Hannibal), first season didn't have an obvious super-woke themes. First episode of second season, which was released after the "summer of love", opens up with "systematic racism" being spouted by the black female cop, the tone of the show was way more somber, and, one of the victims was a black man who was framed for murder by cops & the evidence to acquit him was ignored by the Texas legal system because "that's the way it is [in Texas]". No basis in facts, if cops framed an innocent black man like that, and there was evidence of it put into the courts, that would be the poster child case for BLM (unless of course he was a known MAGA supporter). Instead, their "heroes" are often not-so-good people.
I sure hope this messaging stops in the coming years. Following politics is tough enough, don't need to be seeing it in the entertainment industry constantly.
Bones has a lot of that shit. Bad guy is always a white male.
Every show has a ridiculous men's rights caricature. Soon they're gonna have Trump nazi characters.
It's the shows that make fun of both sides equally that I find the true gems.
For example, Cobra Kai. They don't really specifically put a lot of political stuff in your face, but Kreese talks a few times about how the world is full of weak snowflakes (and Kove appears to be a Trump supporter).
Rather than outright making him "evil", they added in some backstory and moments where you feel bad for him and understand why he is the way he is.
On the flip side, Miguel had his moments of being "the villain", and the fiery girls had their moments too.
The bullied became the bullies and then fought the bullies.
Liberalism gets made fun of a few times and so does conservatism.
It's shows like those that I appreciate.
The Mandalorian has also been overall refreshingly free of real life politics, instead focusing on in-world stuff. Their strong female lead doesn't buy into the snowflake bullshit, and while Pedro Pascal has said some shit that is really negative towards Trump and Trump supporters, I still enjoy his acting in the show, especially when we see glimpses of real emotion.
Supernatural, despite being criticized by a lot of Christians here (which really shouldn't surprise anyone considering the subject material) also had a lot of moments where they made fun of both sides. In the beginning especially, Sam believed in God and Dean thought it was stupid, then Dean ends up having a wake up call when God turns out to be real, with angels and demons all.
But then you get to some shows with some really sketchy messaging, like the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Not the Satanic stuff; the original comic was meant to offend and shock with exaggerated stuff, but rather the "muh wahmen power", "muh patriarchy" type stuff.
For me, unless a show is laying it on super thick I can get through it and enjoy it by overlooking it.
But the things I have the most trouble overlooking is the media.
It's truly a red pill moment in the most purest sense of the Matrix when you realize how much propaganda they're spreading, how much fake bullshit and non-truths deliberately designed with plausible deniability in mind, and then watching people absorb it and have it alter their opinions because "I like to see the other side".
SPN's problem was that it's fanbase was always far more rabid SJW than the show itself was ever trying to be. Tumblr was a big part of that crap, trying to force in SuperWhoLock fandom and trying to make "Wincest" a thing. (Yes it is what it sounds like lol)
But they were always criticised for their treatment of women and female characters in the show, and not having any LGBT characters, so the fans were always torn between calling it out on it's celebration of machismo and traditional masculine hero tropes and giving the show a free pass because it had such cult status in the community for some reason. (Probably cos the hypocrite fangirls were drooling over the main actors all the time)
Kripke the creator is now such a rabid SJW, bizarrely.
Yup I don’t watch shows anymore. I go between this and spacing out in video games.
I happen to be lucky so this “mental break” doesn’t impact my future too terribly but I need to pull out of it before it does.
I’m trying to fix my frame of mind. The people have never been “in the know” and these power structures are ancient. There’s little to gain scouring for truth but I feel desperate after having the wool pulled off my eyes.
I think this ought to be an opportunity for more appreciation of what life does offer and what small differences I can make for my own sake.
Be selfish; look after yourself. Life has gone on for millions of years, and will continue to go on regardless of what man lives in a building in Washington!
