There’s been a lot of stories surrounding him from the UK press over the last 10 days. This one is the latest regarding Corey Feldman.
I know weird is an understatement, but his abuse story seems to be gaining a lot of traction and covers all forms of perversion.
Is Manson just another hollyweird nobody or is he a Kingpin in something bigger?
As a musician I can only give you my 2 cents from that perspective because I don't know him personally.
I ascribe different energies to music. I put the Nietzsche-ian Apollonian/Dionysian dichotomy to it. Some music is made for beauty's sake and follows a rigid production process. This would be things like Progressive Rock, Classical, most forms of Ambient and Folk. As well as Gospel.
The Dionysian is very much like GG Allin, Iggy Pop, 2 Live Crew, Manson and a lot of rock music. It's meant to elicit an emotional reaction from record buyers or a crowd. That could mean anything from whipping them up into a mosh, scaring them or just getting them to dance. Where as Apollonian music is about the music itself. Dionysian is very much about the stage show that the crowd reaction. It doesn't mean the music is less than Apollonian. It's made for a different thing.
There are some people that really skirt the middle as well. Zappa, NIN and David Bowie are good examples. Their music is, from a musical perspective superb. The subject matter can be outrageous some times or vice versa. The music may not be well planned but the subject matter isn't made to get much of a response. Music inherits some of it's creators' DNA and personal experience.
A lot of musicians put things that interest them in their music. Many different acts have covered Satanism and evil differently. Black Sabbath for example covers it from the perspective of it being a condition inherent in our reality. We can chose to do good but evil is consistently lurking. In this sense it becomes a powerful adversary no one can avoid confrontation with.
Some musicians do revel in it. I remember that whole Black Metal stuff that went on in Scandinavia two decades ago. They do it to different degrees as well. I could argue that many popular entertainers are closet or unwitting Satanists. Certainly Q has pointed some out.
When it comes to Manson I'm kind of split 50/50 on him. I think he seems pretty level headed off stage. I think he got treated real shitty by media after Columbine. He hit the nail on the head when he pointed out that no one liked or cared enough to ask the shooters about how they were feeling and form some kind of un-high-school-superficial relationship. I also do like his music. His music the inheritor of one of Rock n Roll's oldest traditions which is shock along with Iggy, Allin, Alice, Kiss among others.
He's one of the few musicians that I watched a documentary on and still don't fully understand. He mentions in one of his documentaries that he enjoys pointing out hypocrisy. It seems his imagery is based on the fact that, we say we don't like sex, drugs and violence and yet it's on television regularly in the form of crime documentaries, alcohol commercials and cheesy romance movies.
We say there is freedom of religion and yet Satanists cannot (and should not in my opinion) practice openly without (in the 90's) being chastised. I take the Black Sabbath approach to things however. Evil is inherent in life. Practicing those dark, antiquated rituals openly is throwing away the due diligence and avoiding doing evil onto others.
I think it's also possible that Manson could also be pointing out that while many people claim to be morally up right we all may be participating in a form of Satanism without knowing it. Modern people were not there on the mount at the Pentecost or when God handed down the Commandments. Satan may have infiltrated our society long ago and we have no remembrance of it. Remember Satan is a perverter of wills. He will lie, deal and tell you sweet nothings to exercise dominion over your soul.
Rock and roll can be a catharsis though when it comes to these things. How do we know what evil is if we cannot see it? Some people may see it. Those that can see it must communicate it if we are to be conscious of it. To me that's Dionysian music.
It may be the oldest form of exorcism. It may have been the most important weapon in the arsenals of witchdoctors, shamans, druids, oracles and prophets. Christ and John the Baptist were able to exercise demons from the afflicted. When dabbling with these things it's easy to become them. A white rag will take on the dirt and sludge it cleans.
Back on the real world. When I hear about sexual assault allegation it could go wither way. Now I think of the Amber Heard thing. She's really destroyed what momentum the MeToo movement had in my opinion. She's very clearly trying to squeeze Johnny Depp for money and give some of his acting gigs to girlfriends in new woke Hollywood circle but I also know Hollywood is the home of the Weinstein perverts so... shrug

Thank you for this reply. I've been thinking the same but lack the ability to explain it so well.
