The emergency codes are next to each other on the dials. People occasionally do something dumb like passing thru another emergency code which triggers the alarms. For example if you temporarily lost coms (not that uncommon in some planes that I've flown) and then they come back and you pass thru the emergency code on your way to your new squak (by choosing the "wrong" digit to change first), it triggers the ATC alarm. Decent chance that it's nothing.
