I saw a video on Ridiculousness the other day that had a little girl in a crazy skimpy outfit and I thought to myself what parent in their right mind would post that online even if it was funny. I just didn't get it. They are so obsessed with clicks and fame etc etc that they just post anything and everything without even thinking.
Amen! Everybody thinks I'm just horrible, but, my 15 yr old does not have a smartphone. And i avoid anything with a custom feed or stream tailored to me...they can keep their seeds and mind kontrol...
There was a story a few years ago about a woman who was in Europe and saw, I think one of her kids, maybe it was her, being used in some advertisement! Somebody had grabbed it off FB and just decided it was good for some ad, and figured some American would never find out about it :)
strict rules with face book only family and friends that I have met in person are on my friend list...there are a few family members I have not met but they are the exception to the rule. I also will set up the face book feed so I dont see any extremely libral and politicly active family members post. there are onl three younger nieces I feel I have to do that with and if they were not family I would unfriend them. I find that its enjoyable when you actually know the person for real and socialize with them in person on occasion .
It felt like I was in high school all over again. I felt like I had to be polite, and say 'oh so cute' even when I didn't think it was. I quickly learned that honesty is not welcome. I definitely think it was a combination of factors that made me walk away. It just wasn't for me. But in real life, I enjoy the 5 minute, seemingly honest, conversation with a stranger over the 3 hour long bullshit family get-together anyway.
there' is just me no wife so I really enjoy hearing from family members but you are right there are conversations you just dont have on line with friends from child hood.
I keep my FB contacts below 70 at all times. If someone leaves my life, I remove them. If they come back, they get added back. It's not perfect, but I'm waiting for the day when my data has legal value and all the social media companies have to back pay for it. (wishful, bordering on stupidly idealistic thinking, I know.)
Whoring out of the kids is detestable. I have three grandchildren. They're parents don't use social media but other family members do. We have asked them repeatedly to not post pictures of the children. Yet they do so. Now we just don't send them any pictures. Problem solved. If you can't respect another person's values, you don't get a chance to go against our wishes.
One person is my only sibling. He's not the one going against our wishes, but his wife thinks she owns facebook. She posts pictures of herself fake working out at the gym, lots and lots of very filtered selfies. I don't know who she's trying to impress, but every time they get something new for their house it's barely out of the box before she posts on FB. I don't get it. I don't even want anyone to know what the inside of my house is like or any personal information. NO FB for me.
Or how many. Or how old. Or names. Or locations. Or IF they exist. ALWAYS be indirect and circumspect. Do this with your own identity, and with the identity of ANY whom you love. The world is full of evil nevilles like Suckerberg and Twittywank, who will service traffickers like Baideng and Honest Obe. Do not give the Rodham any fodder; do not feed the Xi.
DO NOT PROVIDE DATA, ... only scorn and resistance and a mirror into their own void souls.

"So um, where are my royalties for that photo you used?"
I could be wrong but I believe this also happened with photos of a girl who had killed herself
Probably why social media was created in the first place.
This should be common sense, but it sadly DOES need to be said.
Yup. Part of why I stopped participating in fb over 8 yrs ago.

Stop using social media.
This site is social media.
This site is a forum.
It’s a form of social media.
I've never done this and don't understand why people do.
