I’ve been saying this since I joined TDW long ago, get off FB! I beg you!!! I can’t stress it enough. I use this analogy when I talk to people offline. If someone came to your door with a clipboard and asked you for your name, address, phone, place of employment, marital status, religious preference, political party, a list of all your friends and family, a list of of all your coworkers, all your photos, where you go out to eat, where you shop, where you vacation, what kind of pets, what you like to watch on tv and movies, and so on.... and they’re also going to monitor most other websites you use and read all your private messages- would you willingly give it to them? Hand it over. For free. But they’ll make money off of it because you’re the product. You’ll really get nothing out of it except eventually an addiction and probably depression in the long run. And no privacy.
I left Facebook, Google search engine, Twitter, etc and when I used DuckDuckGo for the first time it gave me a pop up message that those companies were trying to track me and DDG stopped it. Hell yeah, get off these platforms people! They’re selling your private info and that’s how they get rich
How about tracking cookies, flashcookies, the likes? Any website has a host of all kinds of legal interest parties that very much like to track anyone visitor.
Why? to serve you adverts.
In the movie Minority Report, there is a scene where John is walking through the mall. And all advertising panes are shouting out his name. The beer he likes, how long he's been a member of a certain club, fragrances, the lot of it. All in the name of business opportunity.
