I have been tasked to write a newspaper article for my highschool newspaper class about Q, or rather what they have called "Qanon". Is there any basic facts and sources I could draw from as to bring only the truth? I want to counter the media's spoon fed lies, with this being the opportunity.

If you were not following near or at the beginning then you will find many MSM pitfalls researching. When the term QAnon shows up in the press it's just an indicator of how little they know on the subject, the "Anons" were there at before the start, on 4 (half) chan posting all sorts of things anonymously hence the term "Anons". When what now is referred to as "drops" or "Q drops" started to happen, it was largely not taken seriously by the "anons" and over a small amount of time anons were trying to work out how serious this was.
An anon asked for some sort of confirmation? You may or may not be aware of the infamous "Tip top tippy toppy" speech by Trump on the balcony with a white rabbit (by now "follow the white rabbit" had been dropped in Q posts) and only a few hours before on the chans an anon had asked/challenged the person posting as Q to get the words "Tip top" into one of Trump's speeches, as a way of confirmation that it was coming from high up either in MI or the WH.
So a few hours later Trump gave that speech on the balcony with Melania on one side and a giant white rabbit on the other, and said that about it being "Tip top, or as we like to say tippy toppy shape" (I may not be getting the entire thing word for word btw) which for many was a coincidence too far and hence more people started taking it seriously.
From there more Q posts (or drops) started and more anonymous posters started digging into the info (crumbs) to see the bigger picture. Other, what are termed as "proofs" also happened along the way, building on the confidence that this was in fact not a larp and genuine.
Now it's difficult to know for 100% certainty that what most think it is, it is. I can't remember the exact details but do recall someone being able to work out that the IP address being used was one of the DOD which gave more credibility to it being military intelligence of some sort? Some of the information including the term "deltas" have incredible accuracy often 2 or 3 years in advance, but it could also be argued that because of it's randomness any information could be made to fit with a stretch of the imagination.
Tripcodes play an important part and you will have to research them on your own, the posts went from 4 chan over to 8 chan then 8 kun after many attacks on the sites. Again many apologies but you will have to work out the when and whys on that.
Is Q a LARP, personally I don't believe so (but I may well be wrong) one overriding factor for me is that I cannot simply believe that there are so few people within the military, intelligence services and other areas that would simply let their country fall to communism without a fight?
