Here's an Epoch Times article that should put to rest the question: Do you know who rules over you?

This case has been ongoing for a while and Google did not copy oracle's code. It's also in every software engineer's interest that oracle not be allowed to copyright an API interface. Otherwise, you would have these mega companies owning copyrights to programming standards and interfaces. Microsoft has contributed a lot of common API to the wider software engineering community that is re-implemented by software engineers worldwide. If oracle were to win their case against google, microsoft could theoretically sue many companies as a result. You'd also open the door for patent trolls to go after APIs.
The case is more complicated in that Sun Microsystems was the previous owner (and founder) of Java. They gave Google the green light to re-implement the java interface so that java code would work under android. When Oracle took ownership of Java, it became their interest to try to milk money out of everyone using java.
I think Google was in the right then, and for this case, they are still on the right side. And yea, i would like to see them punished for their censorship decisions on YouTube and play store. But this case isn't one of those I think they should be punished for because it would hurt software industry and empower lawyers and patent trolls
Thanks for drilling down on this, Fren.
"I invented async programming, pay me!"
Hah. Actually, if you look deeper into the latest java API, oracle copied a lot of interfaces from RxJava and Guava futures (owned by Google). A bit of hypocrisy.
