It's like the vampire books/movies, you have to invite them in... with the masks, you are showing you accept them by wearing them. The only way to fight back it to not comply. With the evil people forcing this on you, they see your acceptance (compliance) and move the goalposts even further towards tyranny. People that do comply, get angry at those willing to fight back because they themselves don't have the courage to stand up. Compliant people have to rationalize their own behaviors and choices and in doing so, they get angry at those who made the choices they know they should have made.
