Maybe it's more about gathering steam and less about actual function? I don't know, but I'm with you- it's some nonsense. Which is part of why I'm thinking maybe it's less about the site and more about it being a thing? Who knows. But WordPress axed a bunch of political sites a few months back. Squarespace has done the same too. Maybe the point is to lose the site? To prove that even if we do something ourselves they'll still stop "us".
