Story time:
I renewed my license and bought stickers for my plates today.
When I walked into the BMV, there was an attendant setup immediately in the doorway with a plastic table, an eye examination station, some pens, etc. Basically what you would expect from a makeshift station. This isn't normal.
He immediately asks me what I am there for, and doesn't allow me to pass into the next room to speak to an attendant. This is new.
I tell him I'm renewing my license and my plate sticker. He asks if I want a Federal Issued ID. I said "I'll just take the normal one for now."
This is where it gets weird. He asks me to look into the eye examination station. I look in and its blurry as hell. I say to him "There has to be something wrong with this thing, I have 20/20 vision."
He tells me "No, that's how it's supposed to be. Your eyesight is bad." From this point on, all interactions from him have a condescending tone.
I reply, "Absolutely not, I've had 20/20 vision my entire life. I've never failed a vision test. Is there anyway you can adjust this?"
"No. This can't be adjusted." He tells me.
So I pressed my face against the station, and I had to tilt left and right to see the numbers, but I passed it.
"Do you have your birth certificate and social security card." He asks.
"Yes, I do."
This time he gets real condescending, "Then why aren't you getting a Real ID? Why would you bring your birth certificate and your social security card if you're not getting one?"
"Because I come prepared. Is there any other personal questions you'd like to ask me?" I glare at him.
"LOOK, IM JUST DOING MY JOB!" He raises his voice.
"Is it your job to ask me personal questions?" I respond.
"Just go on through" he says flustered.
Now I enter the normal section of the BMV that I'm used to. (Which now has a Bitcoin ATM)
I felt like I was being gaslighted into thinking I had bad eyesight. I imagine this trick would work on our elderly.
Has anyone else experienced pressure like this to get a Real ID?
I'll never get a real ID. passport works just fine for travel.
This is true, you can still get a passport to travel.
PA is thumping the tub pretty good at the DMV for the RealID.
I personally have dealt with the real ID for my work. I believe by 22 all states will only be issuing real ID which requires at least one birth document to prove who you are. Some states have already passed the deadline others are qued up for the next rollouts. You will not be able to travel by air without a real ID once all states have reached the deadline.
It’s a real thing and to help with national security as far as traveling and doing anything that does require valid government ID
In my opinion, if they are worried about national security, they should finish the border wall.
Think about this - They already scan my ID at the airport, match my face to the picture on it, send me through a metal detector, x-ray my bags, make me take off my belt and shoes, place my electronics on top of everything, and carry my shampoo in small containers, while forcing me to throw out my soda I paid an arm and a leg for at the airport.
I cant imagine them needing more from me then what I already give, you know?
As far as I’m aware. You’ll need one to fly, enter Federal/Military facilities, power plants, and a couple other things I don’t recall at the moment.
I’ve never been pressured to get one at the DMV. It’s an anecdotal report granted. But I’ve never had issues.
Consider this your daily red pill. It happened to someone today.
Am I expected to record all interactions on video for people to accept that this happened? I'd like to do that, but thats a tall order for an unexpected event.
We need to be able to trust one another at some point. I don't know what else I could present for you to accept what happened to me today.
As far as anything my daily life goes, I really don't need a Real ID. I'm not sure why there was pressure to get it in the first place.
Yes, last year when I renewed my license - though not quite as bad as what you described - there was no BS blurry eye exam, but there was the makeshift little station right up front by the door, and a dumb little girl pressuring me to get an ID that would let me get on a plane. I told her, I don't fly. I drive wherever I go, or I don't go. She's like, "well you might fly somewhere" and I abruptly cut her off and said, "Do you know my schedule and habits somehow better than I do?" She wasn't as clever as the one you encountered. They do get butthurt when you stand up for yourself though, but I'm sure that's by design. It does appear this is a trend.
Its crazy. We need to let our red pilled community know, and protect our elderly when they go to the BMV.
I wouldnt be surprised if similar tactics are used, or will be used in other circumstances.
I couldnt identify the guy because he was wearing a mask, and didnt have a name tag. Any other identifying qualities could be twisted into descrimination.
Of course - they never have a name tag when they're there to piss you off. I've noticed that among all the crappy-attitude little pukes out there, whether at the BMV or at Walgreens. The worst attitudes come with no name tag. Though - it would be funny to start taking that person's picture with your phone and watch them freak out about it. Since you can't identify them any other way...
I renewed my license this week and had to get the Real ID. I was automatically registered as an organ donor without my knowledge or consent, so watch out for that. I had to go online to remove myself from the registry after I noticed it on the temporary permit.
Yes! This happened to me too when I got my regular ID.
It had me listed as an organ donor on the pinpad before I was able to hit "Next" and sign.
I had to tell the lady to go back and reedit it.
Out here, they look like this:
