Someone posted about a NOAA report that a big geomagnetic storm is approaching, what are the possible effects and what could be done to mitigate damages ?

Faraday cages required or I only need to turn off the electronics around a hour before it hits ?

Will there be damages to the grid as a whole, or only the comes will be stricken as the sattellites will go haywire ?
