One theory I have is that this is the pay back for eliminating small business from Amazon. Amazon was the primary benefactor for the Covid Shutdowns. Now it's time to pay that back. How can Amazon pay back the government ( D controlled ) in a way which doesn't look obvious? The extra tax paid through Gas taxes... This extra Gas will again harm Amazon's competitors but barely dent Amazon's profits.
