Take a look at the milgram experiment. 65% of people are willing to murder if someone in a white lab coat taps a pen on a clip board and tells them they must continue.

Think of human history. William Wallace (Brave Heart) was ripped into four pieces by horses. History is filled with powerful people murdering weak people with courage. As a species we are filled with cowards and boot kickers because these are the people that were able to survive and breed.

Those with courage were murdered and their entire family line may be wiped out to serve as a lesson to others.
