Imagine showing up somewhere to buy some food and offering a gold, or even silver, coin. You will be marked and followed. Be very discreet when and if you need to do that.
Better yet, buy food and other useful things - like toilet paper, medicine, socks, etc.

create a shack, put a kiln in there, spend time in there. board up the windows. Hide the your stack of gold in a secret spot in there, buried or whatever. Spend a lot of time in there, melt things down, spend hours doing it while reading a book, especially in the winter to stay warm. Make it look like you salvage it from junk.
Keep a few ounces in your house.. if someone ever comes to take it, give what you have "this is all i have, i scavenge and melt things down and make this"
