I agree. I am one of those who have been showing these old cartoons and trying to warn for decades. I have lost everything for doing this, twice in my life. In desperation I bought land far away from people back in the woods and up in the mountains, very inaccessible, made plans to defend it against anyone who finds their way here. I will have mercy on no one.
You DON'T have to get completely away from everything in order to survive and defend yourself. You don't need a remote cabin in the woods... unless you just want one.
Keep in mind that, in an EOTWAWKI and SHTF scenario, 10% of Americans won't survive the 30-days. From the onset, extreme violence in the cities, panic, shock and inaction will result in 10% population die-off.
Of the remaining 90%, more than 50% will have serious problems due to lack of clean water, lack of sanitation, exposure to the elements (which we aren't used to) and lack of nutrition. Drinking bad water alone will cause health crises which will kill off 20% of the remaining within 90-days, and incapacitate at least 30% who will be too sick to care for themselves. That's also about the point when all available food has completely run out. Food won't be wasted on the very sick.
The remaining semi-healthy 40% to 50% +/- of the original population will be around after 90-days. Those remaining will have organized themselves and be somewhat in control of their own territories. Nomads will have short life spans, so the smart ones will secure their own areas and survive there. Once organized, they will form barter systems, control resources and handle their own issues.
All you have to do is survive beyond the first 90-days. Let the crazies, the whack-jobs and the ill-prepared sort themselves out. Do you need a lone cabin in the woods for that? NOPE. There are plenty of ways to shelter, even in an urban environment, where people can't access easily (or that you can remain hidden) and you can defend it.
Lots of people have ideas about escaping to the countryside, but most wouldn't be able to survive more than a few days. Getting there is also a problem.
On the bright side, the chances of a complete SHTF scenario are effectively about 1% or less. The chances of minor SHTF scenarios, which require planning, preparedness and common sense, but aren't a life-on-Earth ending catastrophe... are actually much better, like about 10% over the next 20-years.
I will play the odds. Prepare for minor problems, prepare for some major difficulties... and leave complete SHTF scenarios to God.
You are one of the people I avoid most. You assume I have no "skills." Your hubris is stunning. I "escaped" to this mountain farm decades ago, and am doing just fine. In fact, the people who live in these parts are all doing just fine. While our community is very far removed from your suburbs and disgusting places where people live too close together, our community will survive because we have been doing so for hundreds of years.
"Prepare for minor problems, prepare for some major difficulties... and leave complete SHTF scenarios to God."
God is who whispered in my ears to get here. Had I not listened to HIS voice I might be back there in those disgusting suburbs watching people poop on the streets and and pillage their own neighborhood merchants.
Who in the world do you think you are? You sound so jealous. Poor thing.
