At the end of June 2021, speaking to BBC Newsnight, John Edmonds called for civil liberties to continue to be curtailed (under the form of lockdown and social distancing) and to delay the relaxation of the rules due for review on 19/07/2021, until all children had been vaccinated.[14] Since the beginning of the pandemic, Edwards has regularly made TV and press appearances where he has criticised the government and called for longer and harsher lockdown restrictions,[15], and for rules to remain in place until all children as young as primary school age to be vaccinated [16], this is despite concerns from numerous health bodies (including the JCVI) about the safety of vaccinating children.

On the night of January 19, 1917, a TNT explosion from a nearby munition depot damaged the school and hospital, further complicating the school's operations.
