Everyone gets a CDC vax card after being vaccinated but most are hand written and have little identifying info other than patient name and DOB. Is there a central database that can confirm the legitimacy of a CDC vax card?

Here in Greece there's definitely a database. After you get your second shot, you log in to the website, enter your credentials and download your "certificate of vaccination".
In theory, this has to be presented whenever you enter an eating establishment so they can put you on the correct side of the divide. (It only started today so I haven't seen it in operation, yet.) It'll be interesting to see what they do with my wife and me. She got the shots - I didn't!
But I've Photoshopped a cert for myself with fake numbers and QR code. It'll be fine as long as I don't show it to anyone with access to the database. ;-)
How do you get a fake QR code? Does it work when you scan it or is it just for looks?
