They always say after the fact that they didn’t know anything would be inappropriate!!! As a child in fifth grade we watched a film in class about China. It included footage of thousands of people put into a giant pit that was bulldozed over to kill them. My teacher was mortified because she didn’t know that was in it. And I do believe she honestly didn’t know but for sure whoever was above her did. They love to force inappropriate material on children by then apologize after the damage has been done.
