My thought was that [attempted coup] is how the media. Also bolded is [1]. [1] opens the door.

Multiple meanings come to mind:

attempted coup (1/6 in the media)
opened the door, law enforcement
the opening the door OPENS THE DOOR to fighting back legally
opens the door to how it was antifa who did the damage and left alone while Patriots acted like exhuberant tourists
