This was guidance issued earlier this year for “breakthrough” cases of vaccinated patients. They were running them at 28 and labs/hospitals could run the non-vaxxed at whatever rate they wanted, which in many cases was > 40.
The official guidance in January stated I believe to run at PCR cycles at 35 or less. Thus the big drop we saw.
As shit got worse for Biden, it’s my belief the CDC reversed course and hospitals started doing it like last year to cook the books and spread delta variant fear.
