I see so many links here to telegram but I've never used it.

There are some issues with Telegram. I do not use it.

Check proton messenger app and the comparison to telegram.

In these times were privacy and anonymity are Paramount, telegram does not make the grade.

However. If you know what you are doing, it is easy to sandbox it, and create a different commercial profile.
