Meh, this one doesn't impress me quite so much. Anyone with a brain knows there will be another emerging disease. They happen all the time. This is totally normal and to be expected, even without assholes like Fauci buying Chinese-made bioweapons. Mutation alone will drive new disease. In addition, humans intrude into previously unknown places around the world, caves, deep ocean, the dense rainforests of central Africa and South America... They keep finding new fungi all the time in old mines, for examples. It's part of living.
So, naturally any company that deals in drugs is going to want to be researching such things looking for novel drugs. While it may seem strange, they go digging in the soil in places all over the world looking for potential new antibiotics.
Naturally, if you find that you can make new vaccines very, very quickly, cheaply, and reliably using mRNA technology, why wouldn't you set up a capability to do that, for when that next inevitable disease comes out? Seems like a smart investment.
This doesn't mean he's not an evil SOB, only that this particular thing isn't evidence of it.
