It always bothered me when churches “required” you to commit to a percentage of your income and provided the envelopes for you to put your name on as proof that you were providing what you promised. I decided a church could be anywhere-at home, at a park, etc., wherever you spoke or prayed to God. I get that churches have expenses, but demanding a certain tithe is bothersome to me.
Tithing comes from the Bible, FYI. The reason you are provided envelopes that you put your name on is because its tax deductible. You are given a statement at the end of the year.
Not that it can’t or isn’t abused in certain cases, but in general there are reasons for each.
