My daughters went through this in school 5-7 years ago. Oldest and youngest didn't get roped in, but the middle one did it to" be accepted" and is now out and on her own and at that point were she knows she was wrong has told her sisters that, butttttt will not admit it to her mother. (She doesn't speak to me as I'm the asshole who ensured her mom and dad would never get back together, even though he's in and out of jail/rehab constantly.)
