After my computer received an automatic virus vaccine update last night, I am unable to access large swaths of the internet that I usually access.
Including,
- YouTube
- Guilded
- DownDetector
- Any other Google service including search
- Discord
- Fandom/Wikia
- Wikipedia
- DuckDuckGo
- Rumble
- Gab
And a ton of other websites. But I can access only this particular website just fine. WTF is going on?
Please tell us more about your IT troubles.
We want updates.
That sounds sarcastic.
I also pinged YouTube, DownDetector, Discord, Guilded, and Rumble, and got responses with 0% loss. So I think it's my browser or my firewall.
Tell us more. I think you should be posting this stuff more frequently.
How is your mouse working? Any problems with bluetooth?
Any missing pixels in your monitor?
Ok, stop being sarcastic, please.
Sorry fren, just teasing you.
I hope you get your internet problems worked out.
Your phone probably uses your wireless network that should be the same as your computer. Check the sites using your phone to see if the problem is with your ISP or with your computer.
Everything works on my phone. But I can't figure out what is wrong with my connection since everything pings just fine.
Sorry to ask this, but have you tried rebooting? It truly does fix 90% of problems if you are running the Windows operating system.
Another thing to try is to make your phone create a wireless hotspot, then connect your computer to that and see if you still have problems. Then you are using the cell network instead of your home ISP.
Nothing was fixed after reboot.
Another guess: if you're using Firefox, it tends to cache DNS responses very aggressively. Does a different browser work?
Once I had a problem that ended up being due to the cable modem provided by my internet service provider. My IP was being blocked and when they sent me a new one it was resolved.
All cool here.contact your provider
I discovered a long time ago, Antivirus software was bringing me those things that you are describing.
For the past 15 years I've used none. Vpn,yes. Regularly clearing browser.
Not an expert ,but got results, people always argue with disbelief.
I have problems with some sites because of my VPN, I have to turn it off in order to continue to the site.
Yes , I can't screen mirror or use some apps with vpn on.
If you suspect your antivirus, disable it and see if that makes a difference. And besides AV scanner components, it probably has firewall type modules and perhaps anti-spam ones as well - disable them all if possible. The firewall one is the most likely to cause network connectivity problems. If things are working again.. well there is your culprit.
If no good there, then check DNS.. try doing manual lookups on the sites not working, and figure out if they are resolving. If they are, see if you can reach the website IPs. If not, try and get alternate DNS sources, since maybe your internet provider has problems with theirs, and you are defaulting to using the ones they present to you. An internet search on public alternative DNS servers should get you going with a list of options to try out.
Website IPs being unreachable is a firewall/filter issue, either locally via a badly behaving firewalling tool or upstream somewhere..
I know its offtopic but I'm happy to help out here in any way I can, perhaps the tech community over on https://communities.win/c/Technology has ideas too and is more suitable a location for any extended conversation.
As with any IT problem, I'll start with the standard question, "Have you restarted your computer yet?"
Yes.
Can you explain what happens when you try to reach them? Do you receive a message in the browser? If so, that would be very helpful. Or, does it just load to a white page? (If your av interrupts secure data, even your time and date/certificate for that can cause page loading issues. Check that your time and date on the computer are accurate). Download the installer for for your antivirus software. Uninstall the installed version, test, and reinstall after you determine if it is the cause. I bet if the problem goes away when you uninstall, it probably won’t return upon reinstall. Also, if the uninstall process asks you whether you want to keep settings, say no.
PS: This may not be the right place Anons, but helping a digital warrior do his digital warrior things is a worthwhile cause.
