First off, I will say I always go maskless shopping, but nearly all of my shopping experiences only last 10 minutes or so. Today, I had a shit load to do, so I popped in and out of several stores in Chicago shopping including Marianos, Target, Jewel, and Home Depot. First of, I’d like to say what surprised me the most is that I thought I was going to get a lot of shitty looks. I got some, but not to the degree I thought it was going to happen. The worst thing that happened to me was when I was checking out in the self-checkout lane in Marianos today. I scanned a bottle of vodka and the worker in that area told me that she can’t come within 6’ of me to verify my ID. I basically asked if she was kidding me and she stood by her guns. I told her then let’s get rid of the alcohol and she ll buy it somewhere else. She stuck to her guns and replied that it would require her to get within 6’ of me. I then told her that I’ve been in the store for nearly an hour without a mask and have traveled past many of her coworkers who never said anything about masking up. And now that I’m at the end of my grocery shopping experience, she is going to ruin it I told her if you all were consistent, then I would’ve been asked to put my mask on right away. She called the manager at that point. The manager came over and laughed. She was based but basically said there are so many younger people that don’t know how to think for themselves. She said too many are scared to lose their jobs. They’re not worried about getting sick. They’re worried about not being able to work and provide. This is what is is coming down to. We all want to provide for our families, pay our bills, make ends meet. Unfortunately, they are making the jab that only opportunity to meet those goals. We need to find a way to counter this
