When you have to extend your own deadline, your process has serious problems. My understanding of this is a result of spending 20 years in corporate management, much of it involved with implementing company-wide programs and computer systems. Each and every one of them had a hard deadline, and attempting to extend any one of those deadlines would have been extremely career limiting, if not destroying.

Right. There's never enough time to do it right, but there is always time to do it over.
