I don't know. Thinking that there was a generation or two back in the 1760's and 1770's who might have dis-trusted more than we do.

If I have my history correct, they actually "mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor" - got up off their butts, and did something about it.
