Hereditary monarchies are one of the worst forms of government in the world. Monarchies in the US get a pretty bad rap because of that. Elected monarchies, on the other-hand, are actually remarkably stable. The Roman Empire had its best run with an "elected" monarchy (Nerva --> Marcus Aurelius) but had terrible hereditary monarchies (Caesar --> Nero). The Republic of Venice would probably be the best recent example.
damn it's hard to envision a grown adult throwing a tanturm "i want my teddi ruxpin, he is missing where is he!? he was right there this morning when i said good morning to him! waaa mummy", but i gotta say, it's a funny thought.
