I've lived my life in 3 border towns. One in Alberta where I got Montana news. Windsor where I got Detroit news and Niagara where I've grown up and still reside and get Buffalo news.

I've loved America for a very long time. I've been fascinated with the Civil War and Ulysses Grant. I've trucked into Florida and scene most of East coast but the thing I most love about your country is your constitution. I love how bold and uncompromising you are with it and at times I've tried to emulate that.

Canadians are timid and shy but once as someone else put it - once they see other people doing what they want to do they join.

We are filled with the descendents of the losers of the American Revolution. The enemy in your story John Simcoe is a hero in ours. Not bc he fought Washington but bc he transformed our country. He outlawed slavery decades before Lincoln. The first free black church in North America is in my city and was founded by Harriot Tubman. So you have to understand our profound difference in history.

We fought a fight in 1812 and we burned your white house to the ground.  And thankfully bc of that expedition you got the star spangled banner. It was thought that conquering Canada would only be a matter of marching. I'm guessing most Americans forget that the last battle was fought in New Orleans far far away from the cold tundra of upper n lower Canada (in your defense they were British troops but I digrees)

Our country was born on the fields of Flanders. We sacrificed our young men long before the Americans did. But our great distintinction in that war that you Yankees can learn is - we we're noted for our disrespect of rank. Either you know or you don't and in times of war we have no time for officers who have no clue.

On that fateful day in 2001 thousands of American traveller's landed in a place called Gander. Go take a gander .... take a look. Our hospitality is first rate. When these trucks arrive in Ottawa it will be unlike anything you've ever seen. The country is united bc of our distance. And when a few folks from here n there and everywhere make the trip it's worth noting how much theyre welcomed as family. That's bc of the cold.

Our winters force us to shelter in place. Where we hone our crafts. Where we get better and reflect. We are hardened by the the weather but it makes the sweetest syrup.

I'm writing this bc after 20 years of being called crazy and a conspiracy theorist and a failed marriage and a failed business later; for the first time in long long time something is happening. I'm proud of my country and I don't know where it's going to go after the queen (who is on our $20 bill) is found to be a pedovore. "The Crown" prosecutes us in court, and there's a lot of crown land.

I'm just proud. Proud to be Canadian for the first time in a long time.

We are your little brother. A friend loves at all times but a brother is born for adversity. If we can come together 5000 km apart Colorado can come together, Texas can, Missouri can, Rhode muthafuckin Island can. Sometimes you just need your little brother to step out on the ice first.

Terry Fox died when I was 3. He tried to run across our country on one leg and with cancer and died trying. He was 22. One man united our country. We need one in West Virginia. One in Alabama.
