It is called ADS. It uses a concept similar to a microwave oven but at a higher frequency to heat the layer of fat under your skin in order to make you run away.

I have photos of them when they announced they bought them .
Australian authorites denied using anything like that and I didn't see (or hear) one comment in the 20+ Canberra protest videos I watched about it. Yet, 10+ people said they were burned a bit (not a lot, though). the term 'sonic' keeps being pushed around, but this ADS seems to make more sense - unless those people got sun burn - though one burn I saw was more UNDER the shirt. To be fair, those areas may not have been the fattier parts of the body, but now I don't recall enough...
The US military a few years ago showed something similar (or the same?) and I thought they called it a gamma ray gun. But, it was a rrather mainstream media tv station or show, I think. Myabe've even been 10 to 15 years ago when I had a regular TV.
great question. if you are on reddit (I quit), can you ask that there in a science group? there are weight loss clothes and emergency (weather) clothes that may be reflective. I would think the answer is yes. It sounds like a cartoon I've seen, but how cool would it be to reflect its beam back into it to damage it?!
Microwave weapons.
