It is called ADS. It uses a concept similar to a microwave oven but at a higher frequency to heat the layer of fat under your skin in order to make you run away.

Australian authorites denied using anything like that and I didn't see (or hear) one comment in the 20+ Canberra protest videos I watched about it. Yet, 10+ people said they were burned a bit (not a lot, though). the term 'sonic' keeps being pushed around, but this ADS seems to make more sense - unless those people got sun burn - though one burn I saw was more UNDER the shirt. To be fair, those areas may not have been the fattier parts of the body, but now I don't recall enough...
