I get to “username” and when I put it in, I get a red banner with “Whoops! Looks like you missed a step”. Help please

I was getting that last night also and went around in circles a few times. Eventually it said something about choosing a different name which I assume meant it was already taken. I used a different name (same as here) and it worked.

I get to point where it says sending you an email verification and nothing comes through..I checked all my folders so I am waiting on that step
