This is only my opinion from a guy who frequently talks about what he knows nothing about. I have seen in my life time the farm industry being made subject to all kinds of government programs in order to feed the clothe the nation. In doing so the burdens on the farmer and rancher have become outrageous. There is practically nothing left of the family farm with the exception of small organic farms.
Family members of the past were lured away to other prospects of big city life and money. Large corporations and financial institutions have grabbed up farm land and turned it into an industry only relying on profit and not product. Soil has been destroyed by practices that the government fully supports. Natural microbes, beneficial insects and minerals have been depleted from large swathes of land.
I have become very picky in what I eat. Only organic fruits and vegetables and grass fed organic meat products. I hope there is an answer for the large family farms still left.
To keep from turning over large amounts of farmland to banks or the government, you could start community farms. Small portions of a very large farm or ranch to young couples or families who want to be self sufficient or sell goods. One 20 acre farm for raising bees, one for goats, one for chickens, one for cows. A community of small farms to produce, trade and sell without oversight from government shills.
The farmer could pay off his farm have a nice retirement and push things in a direction back to small family farms.
The goal of the government has always been to drive out family owned and operated farmers so corporations could take over. I grew up on farms run by families (Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas) and all those have been bought by corporations.
Bill Gates is buying up productive farmland at exorbitant prices. Many are selling out. What do you think he plans to do with our farmland?
The Chinese are also buying up our farmland too. Do you think they wish us well?

Astute observations, and that's coming from someone who grew up on a farm/ranch.

I know this personally. We have cattle and hay. Don’t know what to do. Farmers are panicking.

They put so much poison into the ground and on our food, maybe this will finally deter them.
I've been thinking the same thing. Let's hope we're both correct!
If you though 8 dollar a pound bacon was bad, wait till you see 8 dollar a pound corn.

A box of pancake mix is going to be worth its weight in gold pretty soon.
