Psa 88:11 Will Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave Or Your faithfulness in 'Abaddon,(the underworld)?
Rev 9:11 They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss (the bottomless pit); in Hebrew his name is 'Abaddon' (destruction), and in Greek he is called Apollyon (destroyer-king).
The king of an "army of locusts"
Also known in the Bible as Pestilence.
And such a thing brings Famine.
The destroying angel possibly
In Hebrew Abbadon often means destruction, rather than a person. e.g. in a Hebrew Bible,
Job 26:6: the grave (Sheol) is naked before Him, and destruction (Abaddon) has no covering. Job 28:22: destruction (Abaddon) and death say. Job 31:12: it is a fire that consumes to destruction (Abaddon). Psalm 88:11: Shall thy loving kindness be declared in the grave (Sheol) or thy faithfulness in destruction (Abaddon)? Proverbs 15:11: Hell (Sheol) and Destruction (Abaddon) are before the LORD, how much more the hearts of the children of men? Proverbs 27:20: Hell (Sheol) and Destruction (Abaddon) are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (KJV, 1611)
He is associated with Sheol, which is a little different from our Hell. He also features in Gnostic literature e.g. the Acts of Thomas. The Gnostics were considered heretics for a number of their beliefs, such as that Jehovah was not the real God, he was a trickster, and the real God is someone else (and Jesus is from the real God). ATM I'm having a senior moment about the name of a fascinating little apocrypha about the Prince of Hell who is definitely a different and lesser being from Satan, possibly Abbadon. When Jesus descends to Hell (which would have been Sheol) while dead, he saves many of the souls languishing there. The Prince of Hell is powerless against him and as I recall Satan tells him basically to stay out of the way.
Well, it is Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ destroys all of the Adamic fall, and brings life to the whole creation.
I'll find a good read for you on the topic, BTW, don't read Revelation as a literal book, it is a book of symbols teaching a spiritual reality.
