Saw it happen. Player claimed he was hit in the stomach and got the wind knocked out of him (per the sideline reporter). Weird thing is when he went down there were no players around him. Possible it happened off camera, but I did wonder.
He was running down the court and clutched his chest before falling over. No one gets the breath knocked out of them by the heart, unless they get slammed so hard it's impossible not to see. Every single time I got the breath knocked out of me I was hit in the stomach area, or fell very, very hard. The ribs protect you from that, and he was grabbing his chest by his heart. That was NOT him getting his breath knocked out, but his heart screaming at him to stop. Also, when you get the breath knocked out of you, it is an immediate sensation that gets better in time. It doesn't happen then 20 seconds later you fold in half. The split second it happens, you immediately stop in order to try to breathe. You don't run around then say, "Hey, I think I got the breath knocked out of me!"
A little later in the game another Carolina player injured his ankle, and they had instant replays of the moment it happened from no fewer than 3 different angles. Interesting there were ZERO replays of the collapsing player getting hit in the stomach. Especially since they showed all sorts of replays of previous fouls.
