Non Believers are image bearers of God alone. They/we are only gifted the Holy Spirit to live in our bodies when we come to faith in Jesus Christ. So only Believers have the "Christ spirit" that you speak of.
So, purely from a logical point of view, how could anyone become a believer and welcome the spirit of Christ into their heart, if it isn't there in the first place and just being denied?
Who made man?
I'm not an expert on theological matters, but it still has to make some sense, surely?
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:1-9 NIV
The Spirit leads us to Christ (which is a gift in and of itself). The indwelling of the Spirit only occurs only after we have come to believe in Christ.
Only Believers received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost as is evident in signs and wonders that coincided His arrival. Prior to Pentecost the Holy Spirit did not indwell all Believers. The Father gave us His Holy Spirit as a gift to the Church and as a testimony to who He is. In OT times the Holy Spirit was poured out on some, here and there, but at Pentecost something miraculous occurred and we were made a temple for the Holy Spirit.
No-one is beyond redemption whilst they still live and breathe. To deny this is to deny the Christ spirit present in all of us imho.
Whether they will actually learn and achieve it? That's up to them, but I would never deny them them the chance.
God already knows who will and won't change. I wish he would rid the world of the ones that won't.

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:49 NIV
