Either Jack was the goodest boy from the beginning, or he had his hands tied, or he flipped.

Jack is smart enough to know that you can't save yourself just by suddenly saying positive things.

He was smart enough to think there would be no consequences to banning a president from his platform. He is deeply ideologically motivated. I think he is just trying to make the best of a losing hand after some deep meditation on it.
