Tax is just another way of making sure you never really own anything. My parents paid off their house purchased in 1960 by 1970. Their mortgage was $128.00. It didn't matter because even with a senior "freeze" they were paying many multiples of that monthly to keep up with their real estate taxes in their old age.
I think part of the Great Awakening is realizing that we have to tear the house down altogether. No more half measures. These fuckers have to go and people need to be truly independent again. Why are WE being audited by the IRS. It's OUR money. They act like they are being generous when they ALLOW us to keep some of it. Sorry for the rant.
I was talking to my 14 year old son about that recently. A homestead should NEVER be taxed at the "going rate". If you got it cheap when no one wanted it, you shouldn't be punished when people do.
While it's kind of good that home prices continue to go up, it prices younger people out of the market completely, that want a house, but simply can't afford it.
As retirees who moved rural 3 years ago, our 2023 appraisal just hit our mailbox.
Our appraisal went up 50%, because Jack wagon city folks are paying $150k per acre out here. We purchased 11 acres for less than that 4 years ago.
The bottom HAS to fall out in the real estate market or good folks are going to be taxed off their land.

Thanks for the rant. You are right. Keep your passion. I'm right beside you.

100% this ^^^!!!
Depending on how you pronounce it, it certainly could sound like "Taxes."
Couldn't find the clip, but here's a transcript of the scene this brought to mind:
-Chico Marx in Duck Soup
That is already happening in many coastal towns and has been for years. Happened to me.
