Sounds nuts I suppose. But maybe I'm not the only one to have this experience. We planted 15 samplings (45 to go for this year!) yesterday and it was really amazing how it shifts perspective.
We did it as a family. Some of us prayed and "talked" to the plants or the ground -- sounds funny I suppose, but it was really interesting to hear our different instincts led us to connect with nature and ultimately our Creator.
A little reminder for me I wanted to share with you that we are all part of something much larger than is usually discussed.
Interesting. As an atheist, I don't have that experience when planting trees and such. I have planted a number of them on our two acre property over the years.
Thanks for sharing.
thank you for your willingness to share your position. I was an agnostic for years (defined as I don't know what God is, but he probably is something) and after exploring quantum physics, energy and that sort of thing, my mind was changed.
You might appreciate the guy who experimented on trees with a lie detector. He found that essentially they have an energetic response to our intentions. i think his last name was baxter or bartholemew.... something like that.
trees are cool by any measure :)
I bet you say that a lot, esp here in the GAW. “As an atheist”. Does it work for everything though?
As an atheist, I like to wash my car with a brush.
As an atheist, I watch my news in reverse to get the true meaning.
As an atheist, I like to find truth in my imagination.
That last one. Interesting. I gave you an ace there, right?
Just sharing perspectives. Also, other atheists are here as well. I find it interesting to learn about others and how they see the world. The Elite are constantly trying to pit one group against the other. My aim is to take that technique away from them. WWG1WGA
I understand. I always find it odd, a title with the word “pray”, or “prayer” in it, seems to always attract the non believers.
Speaking of perspective. I know a great preacher, locally, used to be an atheist. If you would like to talk with him, I’m sure I could find a way to make that happen.
I really didn't key into "pray" or "prayer" and seek to insert my opinion. I was intrigued but the idea of planting trees as a form of prayer.
If this was just Christians or the like making a prayer post I may not have clicked and definitely would not have commented.
I don't see "design". I see evolution. I also see the hand that Man has had in selecting various traits. I see the fruit trees I planted and how they would not exist without Man taking cuttings from other fruit trees. Oranges, lemons, apples, bananas, and others would not be tasty if even edible if it was left to Nature.
I derive a sense of satisfaction at looking at the trees I planted and think about what they may look like in the future. I enjoy the sound of the wind as it passes through the pine trees; some of which I planted.
I ponder all kinds of things. I ponder that trees function by turning the carbon into the air into material so that they can grow. (this is the same reason that if anyone ever gives me crap about burning off brush/cuttings and such because it "pollutes" that I'm simply returning them to the air from where they came)
I ponder that a tree must have branches and leaves like it does in order to maximize the amount of air (carbon dioxide) it is in contact with in order to perform photosynthesis. It grows like it does simply because that is the most optimal shape. (the tree is simply attached to the Earth, but is at the bottom of an ocean of air) I relate this to how bronchi in the lungs branch out in order to maximize the amount of surface area that oxygen can be in contact with blood in order to provide respiration.
I look up at the Sun and feel its warmth shining down on me. I marvel that our solar system is one of millions/billions? within or galaxy which is only of millions/billions? of galaxies within our Universe.
I do think about how much of this relates to gods and religions, but I don't really want to have a religious discussion. I just want to convey how I see the world, similar to how the OP was describing how they see the world.
