I'm from the Philippines and let me share some takeaways.
For context Marcos Jr.'s main rival in this election and the last 2016, the lady in pink, a widow of a cabinet secretary of Noynoy Aquino, was virtually unknown prior to the 2016 national election, but immediately became "darling of the press", you can only hear good words for her from our media.
Also in 2016, the night of election day when the counting started, Marcos was leading with a commanding lead of 1m+ votes. But a glitched happened at midnight, according to a rep. from smartmatic and the counting has to be stopped.
Few hours later, after fixing the glitch, the counting resumed, and his lead started to shrink hour by hour, and by the morning the lady in pink was leading and eventually won. Lady in pink won the VP race by measly 200k votes, the lowest in our history. Sounds familiar? The funny thing is, some votes from the other VP candidates was reduced and transferred to her, caught on video, but our media quickly stated that it was an error on their part.
Marcos Jr. contested the result for irregularities in Presidential Electoral Tribunal, but unfortunately for him, the judge who presided over the case was an appointee by then President Aquino. The case was drag on for years until it became moot and academic in 2021.
Back to present, since Nov. 2021, Marcos was leading on all major survey firms, be it in known anti-Marcos firm or commissioned by the allies of his rivals. He has a 53-60% voter preference compared to his closest rival, the pink lady, who got 18-25%.
Here are the reasons why I THINK (hopefully) we made the right choice:
-The pink lady's one major supporters are the priests, bishops, basically the whole catholic church, it's unprecedented that they openly endorsed a candidate now.
-Our mainstream media along with the priests are seething because of the result, the "veil of neutrality" is now gone, it's so obvious now who are they working/rooting for.
-The pink lady is also backed by the left, 98% of our major celebrities, and oligarchs who milked us dry for decades.
-She is also supported by a woman named Loida, a Filipino-American billionaire, a democrat and an associate of Hillary.
-International news outlet like BBC and tv host like John Oliver joined the bandwagon of ganging up on him (Marcos), they started fear-mongering stating the economy will collapse if he wins.
-They are now blaming misinformation, trolls and Cambridge Analytica for his rise (Marcos) to presidency. LOL. He garnered 16m+ more votes versus the 2nd placer (pink lady).
-The treatment he is getting from the establishment is the same by how they treat Trump, Bolsonaro and Le Pen.
It's either we dodged a bullet by not electing the pink lady or f'ed either way. Time will tell.
