I'm in NO WAY defending the ATF here, it's all a load of horse crap, but there's a bit of confusion about this. The reason they're going after JSD Supply specifically, is because they've already sent them a cease and desist letter before over their "Buy, Build, Shoot" kits. This is what started the whole "ghost gun" horse crap all those years ago. The recent "rule change" just made their previous stance against JSD "official".
The reason they're going after JSD again, instead of say, polymer80, Zev, 1776 Supply, Ghost Gunner, heck, even Brownells and Big Daddy Unlimited, is because JSD was still technically selling full kits, just not for glocks anymore.
They started selling P320 and were going to start selling P365 80% kits just like their old glock kits. THAT'S why JSD got singled out.
Again, this is all horse crap and they need to fight this to their dying breath like Rare Breed is with the FRT-15 Trigger, especially considering their ridiculous and obviously illegal "reasoning", but I doubt they'll start going after the big boys with money to throw around and fight this. JSD Supply has just the right amount of market position to "make an example of them". They're big enough that most people know about them, but not big enough to throw money at lawsuits willy nilly without support from the rest of us.
They try this crap with Polymer80, Zev, Brownells, etc. And they know they have the means and support to fight back easily. So basically, the ATF is bullying JSD supply because they realized they had MANY glaring holes in their new "rules" and now they're trying to scare everyone into complying with something that isn't a law, or even a rule.
Thankfully, Rare Breed has emboldened companies in the gun community to give the ATF the middle finger, so I don't see this going anywhere in the medium-long term. It's just like the Great Awakening, get one person to stand up, and eventually the rest will follow and stop allowing it to happen.
I guess I only heard about the P80 c&d. I never heard about the previous JSD one. I agree, the ATF is most definitely trying to single out a weak one from the herd and make an example of it.
They sent them out to a lot of 80% companies. P80 was just the biggest one. And even then most of the bigger companies ignored it and kept selling their kits anyway, and here we are years later where nothing has happened to them despite ignoring the ATF's letter.
They learned from that, and that's why now they're going after someone MUCH smaller in order to try and bully them and set a precedent. Between this and their rampant failure with Forced Reset Triggers (Rare Breed has ACTUALLY designed and is going to be releasing and selling a new 3 position trigger with safe, semi, AND FRT mode soon) and Pistol Braces, you can tell the ATF is getting desperate for an actual win.
The best part about ALL of this, is that pretty much everything described so far, is now covered by the Heller decision, which from my understanding is the grounds the GOA is using to sue the ATF and federal government over, because of the literal millions of 80% builds in the country, as well as the millions of pistol braces, and million+ Forced reset triggers that have been sold from various manufacturers since they were introduced.
In other words, this is all just them trying to delay the inevitable by making last minute power grabs that they know aren't going to work out, because they're desperate.

They are a turd swirling the toilet bowl grasping at whatever they can to delay the inevitable for sure.
