In this case a background check would have returned nothing illegal. The charges are recent.
That said, the person is not hiding who they are.
We need an injection of morality and common sense into our government, more than a bunch of new laws.

Sure; go for it. I just think it's a useless exercise, like doing a background check for strippers... it's beside the point. At this level, anyway.
If and when this person is convicted, existing law would probably prohibit them from being employed or engaged anyplace dealing with kids anyway.
