If this was about the PretendUS having gone down, why would the PretendVP be rushing to the scene?

She, or more accurately, it, could be sworn in anywhere. It doesn't have to be co-located with the dead body of the PretendUS.

Maybe some local "merchant" wants to use the PretendVP as a meat sleave before finalizing a deal on fresh new child meat for the PretendUS and his keepers?
