I live in the sleepy section of a large metropolitan city. We are fortunate enough to have an old school, independent and worker-owned meat market a block from our house in a residential area. It's been there since 1963 and was grandfathered in during the zoning changes that have taken place over the years.
My dad loses his mind when he sees I buy my meat from there because it's "so expensive". Sadly, he just doesn't understand the exact point that the OP is putting across here.
Plus as a bonus, their meat is much higher quality than the grocery store.
It's the Walmart mentality. Sadly, it rules America. People want the most stuff for the least money, and don't care what the real cost is. It's why pretty much everything is made in China or by child labor in places like Guatemala.
Right? ALL of the meat at my local meat market comes from a small independent farm in the northwest corner of the state and it's absolutely delicious.
Bonus: The people that work there are wonderful and they gave my son his first job while he was in high school. I'll happily pay a little extra for better product and to support good people.
Friend of mine was living on SF during the 1989 earthquake. She had actually been on her way to the ATM and the store to pick up a couple of things when it happened. Power was out for awhile and she had no cash. She didn't have a credit card at the time. The mom and pop store at the corner took her check when the big stores were not. She patronized them for years afterwards, even though they were more expensive, solely because of that.
As a former Chef...every single chain restaurant sells the idea of quality to the people while riding managers asses for pennies from their food and labor budgets.Meanwhile employees barely get livable wages and hours while giving many of their civil liberitys while doing so thanks to the employers employment contracts...wanna change fast food? The margins of profit available in foodservice is tiny...if 15% of a chains customers left for good many would start closing stores...change your habits and enjoy the local options available and get over the need for a drive thru.
We mostly cook our own food. You know more about it that way. In the Philippines eating out is only slightly more than making your own. Rents are cheap and so is labor. Even McDonalds is a lot cheaper. Mostly selling fried chicken, not burgers. 4 years ago it was 1 piece of chicken, 1 sm fry, 1 rice, and 1 sm drink for the equivalent of 2.25 that was their promo meal.
A filet o fish and a medium fry no salt is better than most of the crap people make at home. The average American cooks with too much salt, plenty of canned ingredients like cream of xxx soups and pre jarred sauces, or uses too much oil (and bad oil at that) Not to mention making too much food and the culture of "seconds"
Point is though that we just keep giving money to corporations that want to enslave us. Though I admire Ray Kroc as a business man. Using McDonald’s as a real estate company is genius.
Also mainstream nutrition advice is BS.
Animal based diet of meat, organs, fruit, dairy and honey is the way to go. Get away from seed oils, sugar and toxic plant defense chemicals.
Great share! I bought 4 turkeys at Kroger after Thanksgiving, 5 bucks each, I Love turkey sandwiches, wife loves the dark meat, and my friend's dog enjoys the bones.
This is exactly why many of the Founders didn't want our new Constitution in 1787. The people's mandate was simply to strengthen the Articles of Confederation, but instead a full blown coup took place and subversives backed by foreign bankers were able to put a new Centralized Federal Government into effect under a Constitution that Patrick Henry called a, "masked aristocracy, that they are attempting to smuggle upon you under the suspicious garb of republicanism?"

We bought a quarter cow last fall, grass fed/grass finished. The best ground beef I’ve ever had 👌

I agree. I learned this early on as a young adult.
I dont care what people do as long as it's voluntary.
Moon and pop want your money too. And you’re the one with the money making the decision as to the health of what you buy/eat.

Yup, my wife is Philippino and cooks great! However, very unhealthy food is popular there. I try to eat healthy with mixed results. kek
Then those people just suck at cooking.

America needs the air fryer.
Knock knock --- who's there?
DON'T EAT AT FUCKING MCDONALD'S
Lol, agreed
Just now.
HEB --- 10lb bag of chicken quarters $6.40 --- 64₵ per pound
That's 10 meals for about 64₵ per meal.
I brine them cold in season salt and meat tenderizer about 3 days.
Then grill them, bake them, whatever.
I am going to try pressure canning them.
