My fear is that it's reverse psychology. Like putting foil on the old TV antennas to get a better connection.

It's called a Faraday cage. Never underestimate the power of a grounded Faraday cage to block EM radiation, LOL.

You can get netting that blocks or disrupts EM waves. The tinfoil hat approach is a bit random. It will reflect waves, but possibly concentrate them in random areas.

I would think a tin hat may need to be grounded too, or it's an antenna, not a shield.
