I’m not believing that. Son in law moved from Britain, is disabled as he’s a paraplegic, now a citizen, never worked a day and he’s not eligible for squat.
Not saying your lying, but perhaps there is something else involved. My other daughter works for the SSA, your not getting benefits, even if your disabled, if you never worked. Maybe what their saying is the parents are getting some of the children's benefits some how.
Note: My first wife collected SS survivor benefits for her kids, but her first husband did work albeit under 10 years. I also in the coarse of using phone chatlines to meet women for dating, dated 3 separate women who were collecting SSI and none of the 3 worked more than a year or 2. They didn't get much, 400 or so a month.
I started collecting SS at 62 and have over 35 years working and am only getting 1108. Pisses me off they collect but paid 0.

<shrug> maybe he receives benefits from Britain, I have no idea why, but I'm not a liar... have a great day!

SSI doesn’t require a work history. Just old age or disability plus basically dirt poor. I assumed that was what op was referring to
Also note: A friend of the family's father was denied citizenship a few years ago when he answered no to if he could support himself...

that's how it works. our SS would be solvent if it was used only for contributors.
Congress could make a separate system for non contributors, but it would be harder to launder money and buy votes.
