This is really up there for the stupidity of this regime. What will be the consequence?

Political - The political battle is for the independents, especially suburbanites. Trump nation is already on fire. This will hearten the hardcore left. It will be seen by independents for what it is and no screaming bullhorns form the MSM will deflect from what the country is seeing. I have been skeptical of Reps chances to take the senate....this may very well push them over the top.

Security - There are hotheads on both extremes that are openly advocating for armed conflict. this action will further inflame the right wing militia movements. Even if there is no fight, the enhanced LE effort focused on monitoring and controlling these guys will be a massive drain on other (legitimate?) activities. And we are at the point now where it won't matter who shoots first, once the first shot is fired, Military and LE will not be able to contain it. This may be the lit fuse burning toward the powder keg.

Foreign policy - How does this look to the international community, both friend and foe? Probably enough to just ask the question. I have said for some time that China needs a "wag the dog" to take focus off of financial and ethnic problems. Perhaps this is OBiden's wag the dog.
